Dear Sorobon friends,

It has been a while since we sent you an update on our Resort.  Many things have happened since that time.

First and above all it is our sad duty to notify you  that one of our team workers passed away. Ramoncito Pop, who joined us in May of this year, was unfortunately killed in a motor accident on September 2nd.  Ramoncito was only 31 years of age and leaves behind his wife and a daughter.  Although he had only recently joined us, we got to know him as a skilful, sympathetic and friendly colleague. We wish his wife and his family lot of strength to bear this loss.

Barbara's mother fell ill quite severely not too long ago and that is why Barbara decided to take leave for an indefinite time to take care of her.  We wish her well and  hope to see Barbara return to Sorobon soon!

In the meantime Hetty retired and Edith went back to Holland, we will greatly miss their loyalty, friendliness and cheerful presence at the breakfast buffet! Isabelle has come to assist us at breakfast and she will take care of the shopping trips to town from now on.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our new Chef, Mischa, who, together with Lucille, intends to keep up our culinary standard to your satisfaction.

Jeny is our new allround colleague in the bar and restaurant and during the high season Megteld from Holland will assist her with that.

Big news:  wedding bells are ringing for Rian and her Ben on this coming 31st October!  Keep a close watch on our website www.sorobonbeach.com for pictures of the ceremony and the weddingparty!

Also, we are proud to say that the year 2007 was the best year ever and the year 2008 promises to break that record, mainly thanks to your returning to our resort over and over again.

A less pleasant event occurred. We had to demolish the little jetty along Chalet #30 due to a misunderstanding of some three years ago with Stinapa, Bonaire's environmental group, which is in a constant battle with the Bonaire authorities, and unfortunately Sorobon seems to have become a victim of that battle. This does not mean that we will leave it to that and we will do our utmost to get our jetty rebuilt in due course, since we have not seen any negative effect this jetty has had on the environment in our bay.

This year we welcome more and more children in our resort, especially during the vacation periods.  From South America the number of guests keeps on growing.

The garden needs our constant attention to be able to maintain the beautiful view onto the sea.

You are all aware of the area behind the chalets # 21 through 30.  Bonaire's environmental groups are hesitant to give permission to expand our existing resort, and we share their hesitation.  Hence we decided to use this beautiful area to built a wellness centre with a "work out" section.  We anticipate its completion by July/August 2009. We welcome any suggestions you might have!

There are a few more items we would be interested in learning your suggestions/opinions and with these we will try to maintain Sorobon up to your standards.

In November next year Sorobon will celebrate its 25th Anniversary, and we have done some brainstorming on this subject.  We would appreciate your opinion on the following questions:

-   a bottle of wine for every guest?
-   a free dinner for every guest?
-   no, Sorobon will donate a certain amount to:
    *  the donkeys sanctuary     .
    * the animal shelter
    * schools which have a huge lack of teaching equipment
    * the Rincon Foundation, where a lot of "silent" poverty is still around...

And furthermore concerning the Resort itself:

-  would you desire an all-inclusive formula, which means a higher rate for the room, but everything inclusive, such as food and drinks

-  not all inclusive, but an increase in rates for the room ($10), breakfast included

-  more dinner buffets

-  apart from the menu and the daily special a daily changing simple dish

-  a broader choice of articles in the reception shop, if yes, like what?

-  are there other items, or services that you would like to see improved.

We would be grateful to receive any inputs and/or suggestions which you might have.

Sunny regards from the beach,

The Sorobon Team
